Every year since 2004 there is a unique event which take place in different neighborhoods:

  • Chueca
  • Embajadores
  • Tirso de Molina

Los Artistas del Barrio “the neighborhood’s artists” is an experience which connects the general audience with the local artists producing at the mentioned studios.

It’s during the two consecutive days that this festival takes place, allowing you to exclusively visit, meet & greet the artists in their daily atmosphere.

As the event’s organizers choose different neighborhoods for the showcase, it is observed as an amazing opportunity to see the effort put in all creations, specially in those locations which are not city center located.

If you are not lucky enough to be in Madrid while this festival is hosted, you can still check out their shop in Calle Embajadores, 7. You won’t be disappointed with the range of prices!

A platform which was created in order to support, and give promotion to visual contemporary art Madrid artists, and from many other regions in Spain, is our next showcased project.

OSM supports talented artists through a series of private initiatives, and public ones too. Open Studio Madrid is a festival which discloses the most personal artists’ information.

It’s thanks to this event that the studios of the hottest artists in the city, active in different styles, are open to the public audience.

This art fair promotes the free access to contemporary art Madrid by getting visitors in touch with the artists at their own spaces.

Where could we experience the contemporary art Madrid free of charge?



There are several locations in town which feature artistic exhibitions all year long. They are all located in the city center.

1-. Matadero Madrid.

Formerly used as a slaughterhouse in Madrid’s riverside, Matadero is a big cultural engine for professionals working within the art industry.

The architectural structure was preserved from the XIX century and several workshops now occupy the rooms where artists perform.

  • There is an alternative cinema where you can watch independent films created by contemporary artists from all over the world.
  • Art exhibitions promote young artists
  • If you fancy a cup of coffee there is a little canteen.

Neighbors observe that Matadero Madrid has brought a positive vibe to the district. You may find this cool spot at Plaza Legazpi, 8. (Legazpi metro station). Open from 09.00AM to 10.00PM.

2-. Contemporary art Madrid museum

Centro cultural Conde Duque offers interesting exhibitions

This public museum/ art space is located in a former military headquarter called Conde Duque and hosts a wide variety of activities all year long & for all audiences.

There are two permanent rooms that you will be able to visit in Calle Conde Duque, 9:

  • Ramón Gómez de la Serna‘s writing room
  • Paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographies & printing collections

3-. ABC Museum

This indoors venue is specialized in drawing and illustration.

The museum of one of the most important Spanish newspapers features a private collection that includes over 1500 artists and it also holds temporary exhibitions curated by international artists.

If you are an illustrator or a comic fan, don’t miss this wonderful space!

  • Where: Calle de Amaniel, 29
  • When: Tuesdays – Sundays

It is a 3800 square meters area that formerly hosted Mahou’s brewing company warehouse. Do not forget to visit this location from San Bernardo street in order to photograph its 1891’s beautiful cheminee.

4-. CA2M (Centro de Arte 2 de Mayo)

This contemporary art Madrid centre has broken all rules.

It does not only focus on exhibiting contemporary visual artists from the Spanish scene, but they also promote art related activities such as concerts by local bands, ballrooms, and self managed festivals.

CA2M has highlighted since 2008 the importance of distributing the access to cultural events all around Madrid’s province. It is located in Móstoles, around 40 minutes from Atocha Renfe station.

  • Where: Av. de la Constitucion, 23, Mostoles
  • When: Tuesdays – Sundays
