Street art tour in Lavapiés : urban culture meets education for school groups
The Lavapiés tour is a two-hour guided walk through the neighborhood’s most significant murals. A local guide leads the group through works covering migration, identity and community resistance, drawing connections between what students see on the walls and the social history of the streets around them. The format is conversational rather than lecture-style: students are encouraged to interpret, discuss and challenge what they encounter.
Along the route, the guide brings the group to Esta es una Plaza, a community garden on Calle Doctor Fourquet that neighborhood residents have maintained against repeated pressure from the city council. Tetoux’s work around Calle Mesón de Paredes also tends to generate some of the tour’s longest discussions, because its subject matter is immediate and local in a way that invites genuine personal response.

The snack is prepared for families the association supports. That exchange is the core of the experience: students from other countries ‘working’ with people whose circumstances are genuinely different, with the NGO team facilitating a conversation that makes the intercultural dimension visible rather than incidental.
A tote bag decoration component gives the afternoon a tangible output alongside the less tangible one. Groups leave having contributed something real. Capacity runs from 15 to 30 students depending on available rooms, and this pairs naturally with a street art tour for a full-day programme.
