Off the beaten, quirky and family-friendly experiences in Madrid

Cooltourspain team members not only “work” as street art guides in Spain, but as full-time parents. We know how hard might it be at times to deal with a travelling situation when toddlers, kids or teenagers are involved. It is sometimes especially difficult to choose cultural activities that keep the youngest ones engaged & involved. This situation led us to carefully curate our family-friendly experiences in Madrid because we struggled in the past with this issue and we wanted to solve a problem that we found in our travelling experiences.

The services we launched in 2015 have already hosted over 3,000 guests of all ages and necessities. We can proudly say that our cultural organization is the only project in town which offers its guided visits in a daily way, for audiences & nationalities of all kinds, focusing always in street art and graffiti. Ever seen this Banksy-style artwork in Madrid?

It has not been an easy way to get where we are at the moment. At first, we fought against copyright. Then, our group leaders argued with the “free tours” because we are basically not playing in the same game (taxes in between). Lastly, Airbnb experiences were hitting hard. Despite all these situations we wanted to thank all the families that have enjoyed our street art tours in Madrid.

Why should you choose our family-friendly experiences in Madrid?

First of all, it is because of the educational idea that lies behind our services that you should join any of the street art tours we lead in town. We are educators and as teachers, we do not accept “I don’t know” as an answer when we ask our guests. We try that the customers who join these walking guided visits use their prior knowledge to become critical thinkers.

Then, we are specialists on the alternative & underground culture. Our family-friendly experiences in Madrid will teach you about the graffiti movement. We will talk about how it changed into what we nowadays call street art. How did the scene become that popular? What are the techniques that artists use while developing their artwork? How much would it cost to purchase a 50×60 cm canvas created by Okudart? Sorry if we throw you too many questions while showing you our city, but we do think that asking is the best way for you not to get bored as with the “free tours”.

Last but not least, it is the social impact that our guests enjoy the most. How many of you do like to visit a new country/city and meet someone considered as a “local”? Javier, one of our street art guides was born and raised in the Spanish capital and he will give you insider information about his city.

Leaders of the family-friendly experiences in Madrid since 2015.

The group of graffiti tour guides who collaborate with our project became specialists on their field at a very short age. They started painting & photographing when they were just teenagers. It all started as a hobby, but after many years on the industry they professionalized in the field.

Our family-friendly experiences in Madrid have been developed as unique activities where all our guests will feel as if they were part of a movie. We are leaders in the local tourism field because we mastered since the very beginning in showing you the off the beaten neighborhoods in downtown areas. Have you read the reviews that people wrote in Lametayel or Tripadvisor? It is also important to mention that thanks to people’s word of mouth, we continue being #1 tour operators in Madrid for a different experience.

Cooltourspain does not only offer walking guided visits, but stencil workshops where our customers can learn with manipulatives. Local emergent artists will show you how to create with photoshop (computer´s software) a plastic or paper based layer from any given image. Later, at the cutting process, you will obtain the stencil which will allow you to paint with spray cans. This ‘stencil atelier’ is the perfect activity for a family reunion or a friends get together party. Ready? Do not forget to bring clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty.

Where do we develop these family-friendly experiences in Madrid?

The organization of the services take place at home or small cafés where it’s easy & comfy to work remotely. The nicest part of our job is that you can perform the administrative tasks home-based or at any bar that counts with a good internet connection. We manage bookings and reservations on a WooCommerce website which we run through WordPress. It’s very easy!

Once these family-friendly experiences in Madrid are written on paper, that’s when we go to the streets. The routes might change without previous notification as we walk daily and our team knows where the best street art pieces are located. Lavapies is the district we visit the most, basically because the tours we lead in the neighborhood are among the most popular of our products. When artists from all over the world contact us to find a legal graffiti wall to paint in town, we recommend them to check La Tabacalera. This is a former tobacco warehouse that we consider the mecca for graffiti in our city.

What are the added values for the family-friendly experiences in Madrid?

Our promise is to show you Madrid alternatively. We will inform you about the social, economic and cultural problems that are existing in our society. This will help you to understand how is it to live in our country. Our guests choose us and not others because of these added values, they want to learn about us and how do local madrileños live alike.

As experts on the field, we will show you those areas in town that you will probably not visit on your own, and if you were to do it, there will be many interesting facts that will not be covered. Our group of local emergent artists will lead the #1 family-friendly experiences in Madrid in a fun, engaging and quirky way. Are you ready to explore the Spanish capital as you have never seen it before? We are waiting for you!
